This is an A23 lightboard with the addition of some opaque milkiness care of our resident sandblaster and glass blower Ruth Allen. How many light companies have their own glassblower? (We don’t know, either, but it can’t be many.)
As this process is done by hand, when combined with the nearly 200 points of light generated by the lightboard, the effect is more subtle and varied than the uniform light of a "frosted" bulb. The points of light and the layers of sand blasted glass mix to create an effect not unlike peering through the window of a smoky London coffee house c.1890. (We also have an in-house social historian, though he isn’t full time.)
Of course, this is a modern LED light fixture, and thus provides plenty of light at only 5 watts of power consumption: vintage lighting done with one eye on the future and one on the Edison light bulb of the past.
The sandblasted A23 comes in three varieties: fully sandblasted; a half-blast with a solid line around the glass to allow more of the light to make its way into the room; and the casual half sandblast, which boasts a similar effect minus the line between the clear and milky glass.
In line with the expectations of our customers our staff and management here at Vintage LED we have decided to release an Ethical Sourcing Policy. This is largely a formalisation of the practices we have already undertaken in our sourcing to this point but we think its good to put these into a document to give our stakeholders an idea of the way we source here at Vintage LED.

At Vintage LED we love ambient light. LEDs can be bright so often need to be dimmed to get the perfect light level.
But LED lights have not always worked well with dimmers.
Some dimmers create flicker, with others the light just turns off completely. This is because many of the dimmers on the market have been designed for Halogen, Incandescent of CFL lights - lights that use a lot more power than LED. Universal dimmers for example - don't always mean that they work universally with all products.
We are please to say that along with LED technology - LED dimmers have also recently improved.
Three that we like and recommend are the:
2. CLA Lynx Dimmer switch
These give a good dimming range and each can be adjusted one installed to remove any issues at the upper or lower end of the dimming band.
Any customers who have issues with Dimming should call us on 1300 043 110.

See you there!
Research into Retail lighting suggests that a bright everywhere approach may not be the best an encouraging customers to feel comfortable when they make a purchase. We probably all know the 7-Eleven effect when everything is lit in the whitest possible light - a definite shock to the system.
A relatively inexpensive and efficient way to include this warm contrast is to include Vintage LED in your shop design. Please get in touch if you would like a product demonstration of Vintage LED Retail lighting options.
